Why we’re here<\/h2>\n

The LGBTQ+ CERN group was founded on 15 December 2010. Since then it has been officially recognised by CERN as the first “Informal Network”, under the aegis of the Diversity & Inclusion Office.<\/p>\n

LGBTQ+ CERN has its own constitution which is used to govern the group. It lays out the rules for elections, policies, meetings, membership, and votes of no confidence.<\/p>\n

Who can be a member?<\/h2>\n

Anyone on our mailing list is a member of LGBTQ+ CERN. You just need to sign up!<\/p>\n

Are our members just LGBTQ+?<\/h4>\n

Our members are not just lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, queer, etc. Anyone is welcome to become a member, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The letters \u201cL\u201d, \u201cG\u201d, \u201cB\u201d and \u201cT\u201d \u201cQ\u201d are not enough to fully reflect the diversity of our group, and to include all the people we would like we\u2019d also need the letters \u201cI\u201d, \u201cA\u201d, \u201cP\u201d and many more letters. However at some point we must draw a line for practicality. We are a very diverse group, and we can never hope to to find enough labels for all of us!<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not L, G, B, T or Q. Can I be a member?<\/h4>\n

Sure! If you want to join us so you can socialise you are welcome to do so. The only reason we have to stop someone becoming a member is harassment, so as long as you are not abusive to other members you can come to our events.<\/p>\n

What if I\u2019m not \u201cout\u201d yet?<\/h4>\n

If you are not \u201cout\u201d you are welcome to join us as well. We have a policy that we will not \u201cout\u201d anyone against their will. If you do not feel comfortable joining us in public that\u2019s okay – we have plenty of less visible events. If you are \u201cout\u201d, but are still questioning your identity you are welcome as well. We have many members who do not even want to define themselves with labels, so do not feel that you have to be one thing or another.<\/p>\n
